Two ready-made plans
The planner builds itineraries to measure, but these two reference plans work as they are, with nothing else needed:
- Short version · 90 minutes and 4 km by car: the exterior of San Miguel Arcángel (25 min), a 3-minute drive, the exterior of Santo Tomás (25 min) and the story of El Castillón next to the museum (20 min). It works even if the interiors are closed.
- Main version · 3-4 hours: both village centres on foot (1.5-2 km in total) and about 4 km by car there and back, with breaks and the museum arranged in advance. With exteriors only it takes 1.5-2 hours.
The walk to El Castillón is a separate addition: a waymarked path of 1.5 km from Puente Quintos, where you park, about 30 minutes on foot among the rocks of the Esla canyon.
Landscape and photography: when to come
The best times are April to June and September to October; winter brings low light and goes well with the trip to the Villafáfila lagoons. In July and August, come first thing in the morning or at the end of the day.
The Esla landscape is covered on the Moreruela-Santa Eulalia-Puente Quintos circuit, about 24 km and 38 minutes of driving. Puente Quintos is a landmark to drive past, not a stop: there is no parking area and you must not stop the vehicle on the bridge or on unmarked verges.

The information line
The way to get in touch is the town council phone line: +34 686 70 21 03. Use it to arrange the opening of the churches and the museum, to ask about the state of the tracks and to confirm services. There is no online booking or payment.
What needs arranging in advance
- The interior of both churches · Opening by arrangement: free entry during services or by arranging the visit; there is no regular visiting timetable.
- Ethnographic Museum · Opens on request, with no fixed hours; arrange the opening in advance.
- El Castillón · A 1.5 km path from Puente Quintos, on foot only; the excavations and the shelter with the paintings are not open access.

Frequently asked questions
Are Moreruela de Tábara and Santa Eulalia the same village?
They are two villages of the same municipality; Santa Eulalia belongs to Moreruela de Tábara and they are about 2 km apart by road.
Is the monastery of Moreruela here?
No. The monastery of Santa María de Moreruela is in Granja de Moreruela, about 23 minutes away by car: another town and another excursion.
Can the churches be visited inside?
They have no regular visiting timetable: the interior can be seen during services or by arranging the opening by phone.
Does the museum open every day?
No. It opens on request, with no fixed hours. Arrange the opening in advance on the information line.
Can you walk to El Castillón?
Yes, and it is the usual way in: park at Puente Quintos (ZA-123) and follow the waymarked Camino Sanabrés path, 1.5 km beside the river, about 30 minutes. It starts at the end of the bridge on the Santa Eulalia side, on the right. It is narrow and runs between rocks, so it is for walkers only. Getting there does not entitle anyone to enter the excavations or the rock shelter.
Can you cycle from one village to the other?
The villages are connected by a walk through open country, alongside the road, of about 15 minutes, and by a cycle path. We do not publish the surface or the gradient of the path because nobody has measured them.
How long does the visit take?
Between 1.5 and 2 hours with the exteriors only, and 3-4 hours with an interior open and the full interpretation.
Is there anywhere to eat or sleep?
In Moreruela: Bar Restaurante Edén, Bar Club de Jubilados, La Otra Casa and Casa Pernila. In Santa Eulalia, the municipal bar on calle Faramontanos.
Is it suitable for children or older people?
The village visit involves short distances, but nobody has checked toilets, benches or steps. The track to El Castillón is a separate matter.
