Two villages of the same municipality, in the north-central part of the province of Zamora, two kilometres of open country apart. Their churches, the Ethnographic Museum and the El Castillón site, beside the Esla, cover many centuries of history in a one-day visit.

The municipality
Moreruela de Tábara and Santa Eulalia de Tábara are so close that they are visited as a single destination.
It is two kilometres from one to the other: three minutes by car, or the walk that links them. Eastwards, the municipal district drops to the Esla, dammed at Ricobayo, and that landscape explains El Castillón. The churches open during services and the museum on request: call before you come.

Church of Santo Tomás
Two pre-Romanesque pieces of the 7th century, a carved alquerque board and a gadrooned font make this church in Santa Eulalia a singular stop. The interior has no regular visiting timetable.

Ethnographic Museum
Municipal museum in Santa Eulalia devoted to the tools and the life of the rural world. It has no regular hours: the opening is arranged in advance on the information line.
A 1.5 km path from Puente Quintos
El Castillón
A fortified settlement of the 5th-6th centuries beside the Esla, with walls, houses and kilns, reoccupied in the 9th-10th centuries. There is a track; getting there does not entitle anyone to enter the excavations or the shelter with rock art.
The Esla, the common thread
The municipal district forms part of the Ricobayo reservoir, on the river Esla. That landscape explains the position of El Castillón and connects the destination with Puente Quintos and Castrotorafe. A walk through open country links the two villages in about 15 minutes, and the site is reached by a waymarked 1.5 km path from Puente Quintos, about 30 minutes on foot among the rocks of the Esla canyon.
